Attorney General addresses Irish Speakers

06 Dec 2010

The Attorney General for Northern Ireland addressed a conference on the Irish Language in the Courts in Belfast on 3rd December 2010. Also speaking at the conference was Michael Flanigan solicitor who acted in a judicial review challenge to the Administration of Justice Act 1737 which prohibits the use of Irish in court proceedings. The Attorney General spoke briefly in Irish before addressing the packed room. It is believed that this was the first time that an Attorney General in Northern Ireland had addressed the Irish speaking community.
